Prior to founding Hutner Capital in 1995, Daniel Hutner was president of Pulsifer & Hutner, Inc., a Wall Street investment adviser founded in 1925. He holds a B.A. in economics from Middlebury College and an M.B.A. from New York University.
Mr. Hutner grew up in a household where business and investments were common dinner conversation. The son of two Ph.D.’s in economics, he has a clear and instinctive understanding of the economy and its relationship to business and investment success. In addition to managing assets for two decades, his professional experience includes econometric research and economic and energy consulting. He is the author of a book about investing, The Rational Investor, and articles for Better Investing magazine.
Daniel Hutner, Jr., the first of the third generation in the family business, joined the firm in 2006. Mr. Hutner, Jr. has also grown up in the business, beginning work on research and special projects in high school. He holds a B.A. in economics, with honors, from Middlebury College where, among other things, he analyzed the microeconomics of local businesses and wrote a thesis on the shadow banking system in China using an agent-based modeling technique. He holds a Series 65 Uniform Investment Adviser license. His many years coaching skiing and tennis serve him well when it comes to communicating with clients about investment strategy. He also speaks Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese.
